About Millennial Mom’s Digest

The Millennial Mom’s Digest was founded in March 2019. Currently serving as an” internet home” to over 700 women, this organization connects, engages, and inspires mothers alike and different. Inclusivity is a strong foundation of this group and therefore has expanded the way in which motherhood is viewed and accepted. Dispelling normative ideas of what being a mom looks like, “Bonus Mom’s” Foster- Mom’s, Grandmothers, God Mothers, Mothers of adopted children, and more have all found a special place to share their experiences.

One of the main focuses of this group is to help all mothers feel empowered when they come forward about their mental health struggles and to dispel any negative-stereotypical rumors that insinuate feelings of depression or severe anxiety postpartum, correlate to a women's capability to be an amazing mother.

Connect, Engage, and Inspire are the three principles this organization operates on. Through community engagement initiatives such as donation drives and fundraisers, we are able to give back to single mothers and fathers needing a hand-up in life and make lifelong positive impacts on amazing families. As this organization grows in 2020 there will be many opportunities for “Mombers” to engage with one another through, “mommy & me” activities, monthly “mommy” meet-ups, and enrichment opportunities. At best, The Millennial Mom’s Digest hopes to serve as an inspiration, safe-space and beacon of light for current mothers and mothers to come.

About the Founder

Brittany Alissa Scott is originally from Durham, NC. She graduated from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology in 2015. In 2017, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Zaria, who aside from her mother serves as her biggest inspiration. Through her own personal battle with postpartum depression, she felt inclined to create a space, where mothers like herself could connect with one another; thus The Millennial Mom’s Digest was born. The Millennial Mom’s Digest is a form of therapy for her, she never realized the impact it would have on so many mothers; “All this time I thought I was creating a platform to help others when in reality God this platform to let all of these women help me”. She wants all mothers to know, that the “village” everyone refers to when a child is born is not only for that child; it is for mothers too. Brittany hopes to use her own test as a testimony that inspires mothers to be more knowledgeable and proactive when it comes to their mental-health status post-partum. Ultimately, she believes her fight and constant efforts to de-stigmatize mental health in the African-American Mother community will be, as her mother says “her mark on the world”.

“My dearest Zaria, I will need you far more than you will ever need me. In this lifetime and the next. You changed my life in the most amazing way. You are God’s vision of true love. My Flower Child...you are everything that is beautiful about the world.”

Forever Yours,

Mommy
